Our suggestion combines one championship visit with time on both sides of Lake Geneva.

Choose the shape of your lake break

The official championship website advertises 8–11 July 2027. Our suggestion is to arrive before your chosen golf day, give that day entirely to the championship, spend the next day in Lausanne and leave through Geneva on the fourth day. You can place this pattern around any competition round that you can actually book. A final-round visit needs a different arrival date from a Thursday visit, so settle admission before committing to fixed travel.

For three nights, keep your main luggage in Évian and make Lausanne a day trip. This saves checking out, crossing with cases and finding a second room in the middle of a short holiday. Choose the longer split-stay version only if your departure arrangements genuinely favour Geneva or Lausanne. The full Evian Championship hub explains the event, while our Evian Resort course guide helps you understand the hillside setting.

A lake holiday and a tournament day call for different footwear, departure times and bags. Keep a small dedicated spectator kit ready, with sightseeing belongings left at your accommodation. Build the boat excursion around the published timetable rather than the other way round; a late finish on the course can make an otherwise attractive cross-lake commute stressful.

Day 1: arrive in Évian and find your bearings

Make arrival day deliberately gentle. Travel to your accommodation, leave your bags and establish where you will have breakfast before the golf. Ask about the earliest realistic breakfast option, whether a packed alternative can be arranged and where you can buy water nearby. If your room is above the centre, check the actual walking route with luggage rather than judging the distance from a flat map.

Our suggestion is a first walk along the lake, followed by a short look around central Évian. The tourist office is the sensible place to choose additional sights according to current access, weather and your interests. Avoid committing your only free afternoon to several timed attractions. A quiet arrival leaves room for delayed transport and makes an early championship morning much easier to enjoy.

Use dinner to simplify tomorrow. Choose somewhere convenient to your room, ask about dietary needs before ordering and buy any permitted spectator snacks while shops are open. You can make this a relaxed lakeside meal if the weather suits, but an indoor alternative matters if a shower arrives. Before bed, download your admission confirmation and the organiser's travel instructions so that poor mobile reception does not derail the morning.

Day 2: give the championship a full day

Leave after breakfast with the official entrance and final transfer already identified. The golf course is separate from the lakeside boat landing, so allow time between arriving in town and reaching spectator admission. Follow the current championship directions for shuttles, drop-off points and accessible entry. A normal route to a resort entrance may differ from the tournament route for ticket holders.

Start with a modest viewing ambition. Our suggestion is to watch a few groups from one comfortable position before following a player for several holes. This lets you learn the ropes, locate refreshments and understand the slopes without spending the first hour marching. Let marshals direct crossings and choose the next viewing point before a group finishes putting. Our first tournament guide explains how to make a first course visit less tiring.

Take lunch before you are very hungry and refill water where the event permits. July requires a plan for sun as well as rain, with a hat, sunscreen and a waterproof layer that fits in your permitted bag. After the afternoon golf, return to Évian for dinner rather than trying to combine the finish with Lausanne sightseeing. Set a restaurant time that tolerates a slow exit, or choose an uncomplicated meal near your room.

Day 3: cross the lake to Lausanne

CGN's N1 connects Lausanne and Évian. Look up your actual outward and return services before buying an attraction ticket or reserving lunch, and check disruption notices again in the morning. A crossing is part of the enjoyment here, but the last useful sailing is also the boundary of your day. Keep the return details saved on your phone and on paper if you prefer a complete offline fallback.

Our suggestion is to begin with the waterfront around Ouchy, then choose one inland outing using Lausanne Tourism's current visitor information. Lausanne rewards a little restraint: a lakeside walk, lunch and one museum or neighbourhood exploration can make a satisfying day. Choose public transport for steeper sections if your legs need a break after the golf. Check access to a particular attraction before building the afternoon around it.

Eat lunch in Lausanne and plan a light evening meal back in Évian. Allow enough time to return to the departure landing without rushing, particularly if your chosen attraction requires a local transport connection. If adverse conditions affect the boats, replace the excursion with an Évian day rather than improvising an expensive last-minute circuit of the lake. Keep a local sightseeing option on your list before you travel.

For a concrete Lausanne plan, our suggestion is Ouchy waterfront, lunch and the Olympic Museum, which Lausanne Tourism places beside the lake at Quai d’Ouchy. This keeps the excursion centred near the shore. Choose the cathedral and upper city instead if architecture is your priority, allowing a separate transport journey and a more demanding walk. In Geneva, use the waterfront and Old Town as the compact departure-day pairing, dropping the uphill portion when luggage or time makes it awkward.

Day 4: Geneva before departure

For a Geneva departure, work backwards from the airline's required check-in time, then add your journey from Évian, luggage collection and a buffer for disruption. Only the time left over belongs to sightseeing. If the flight is early, move to Geneva the previous evening and drop part of the Lausanne excursion. An attractive itinerary should never depend on a flawless sequence of separate transport bookings.

Our suggestion for a late departure is a short Geneva waterfront walk and a simple lunch, with the Old Town as an optional addition if your bags and mobility needs allow. Geneva Tourism lists current attractions and practical visitor information. Pick a compact loop rather than an ambitious city tour. Luggage storage must be checked with the actual provider; a restaurant or museum should not be expected to hold your cases.

A fourth night in Geneva changes the pace considerably. You can leave Évian after breakfast, store luggage with an agreed provider and enjoy the city without watching the clock throughout lunch. Choose this extension when the lake journey itself is part of the holiday. If you have only four calendar days including a long arrival journey, favour a shorter city stop over a rushed final afternoon.

Which base makes the trip easier?

Évian-les-Bains is our suggestion for the golf-focused version because it puts your evening and main bags on the French side of the lake. Compare central rooms with hillside accommodation using the full walk, not simply the distance to the water. Ask about lift access, steps, cooling, breakfast and luggage storage. The Évian accommodation guide explains the local trade-offs in more detail.

Lausanne suits a Swiss city break with a separate excursion across the lake. Before choosing it for a championship morning, add every stage: the room to the landing, waiting for the boat, the crossing, onward transport and admission. A single convenient sailing on a timetable is insufficient if there is no workable alternative after a delay. Compare that commitment with staying in Évian and making the crossing for leisure instead.

Geneva is useful for an arrival or departure night and for visitors who want more city time. Daily golf commuting adds a much bigger travelling commitment than this four-day plan needs. Our suggestion is to use Geneva at one end of the holiday, keeping the tournament nights nearer Évian. Compare the complete cost, including meals and local transfers, before deciding that a lower room rate represents a saving.

Getting around and eating well

Use the official operators' journey planners for the dates you will travel. SBB is useful for Swiss rail connections; CGN publishes the lake services and disruptions. Check whether a transport purchase covers the precise journey you intend, particularly where boats and local transport are separate. Save the names of both departure points and your accommodation address in their original spelling to make asking for directions easier.

Our suggestion is one proper seated meal each day, with the other kept flexible. A substantial breakfast and an early course lunch work better than arriving ravenous at the busiest catering period. On the Lausanne day, make lunch part of the sightseeing; on arrival, keep dinner close to your room. Ask the restaurant directly about allergies, kitchen times and reservations rather than relying on a review site's old listing.

France and Switzerland require separate attention when checking card charges, mobile roaming and travel documents. Confirm your own arrangements with your providers before crossing. Pack the documents you need for the international journey in your day bag, along with essential medication. Anyone needing step-free access should check the actual sailing, landing and local connection with the operator, then review the event's separate accessible travel arrangements.

Keep the border-crossing day comfortable

For the Lausanne outing, choose a day bag that holds a spare layer without becoming difficult to carry through town. Put your return sailing details somewhere easy to reach, and agree when the group will start heading back towards the landing. Our suggestion is to finish any timed attraction earlier than the latest possible moment. That leaves room for a café stop, a missed local connection or a slower walker without everyone watching the clock throughout the visit.

Check how each traveller will pay for small purchases on the Swiss side, and make sure the person holding the boat confirmation is not the only one with access to it. A party that splits after lunch should agree a physical meeting place as well as a time. Keep essential medication with its owner throughout the excursion, even when one person volunteers to carry the larger bag for everybody.

A slower version of the day can be just as rewarding: cross the lake, stay around the waterfront, have lunch and return without climbing far into the city. Our suggestion for anyone concerned about slopes or fatigue is to ask the tourist office about an accessible compact route before departure. The value of this excursion lies in seeing the lake from another shore, not in fitting the maximum number of attractions between two boats.
