Choose a nearby room for simpler mornings, or Windsor for a broader break, and keep normal private-club access separate from championship admission.

Wentworth beyond the television finish
Confirmed: Wentworth's East and West courses were originally designed by Harry Colt. The club also has the Edinburgh Course. The West Course is the championship course associated with the BMW PGA, so take care when researching golf packages or directions: a reference to golf at Wentworth does not by itself identify the course or entitle a visitor to play it.
The club's timeline includes the 1926 International Match, a precursor to the Ryder Cup, and its later championship history. This is a place with a longstanding connection to elite golf, but it is also a private club. A major event temporarily changes the way spectators encounter the estate. Club membership, a playing invitation, public event admission and hospitality are separate forms of access. Start with whichever you actually hold.
Our suggestion: plan a West Course day around the golf rather than the celebrity image of the venue. A well-chosen viewing spot, comfortable footwear and an uncomplicated return journey are what make the day work. Leave time to see more than the finishing holes, especially on a first visit. The course's inland setting gives a different spectator experience from a bare coastal links: the line of the holes and the position of spectators influence what you can see, and moving between busy areas takes longer than it appears on television.
A view of the course

Understanding the West Course
Confirmed: Wentworth's official golf pages describe its courses and championship heritage. Read those with the organiser's map to understand where the West Course sits within the wider estate. The club's history is useful context, but current tournament arrangements determine which route spectators use and which facilities they can enter. A clubhouse image on a hotel advert is not an access instruction.
Our suggestion: give the opening part of the round some time before heading towards the finish. Watch how players position a drive to leave the next approach, rather than simply applauding length. A settled place with a view of a landing area can reveal why different players choose different clubs. Nearer a green, watch the target they select and the angle of the following putt. Those details make parkland spectating interesting even without a dramatic coastal backdrop.
The late holes are an understandable attraction, but popularity can reduce the view for anyone arriving late. Consider choosing your place before the leaders get there. If a grandstand is important to your day, check whether it is public, separately reserved or hospitality-only. Have an alternative nearby that does not require forcing your way through a packed route. The best plan includes golf you can comfortably watch rather than a photograph you feel obliged to recreate.
Our suggestion: compare a single championship day with two shorter visits before buying several nights. If travel is straightforward, a second day lets you watch the opening stretch on one visit and the finish on another. It also gives companions more choice about attending. The useful comparison is the complete cost of tickets, rooms and transfers, balanced against how much golf everyone actually wants to watch. A shorter comfortable trip can be more satisfying than an overcommitted week.
Confirmed: the DP World Tour’s 2026 Wentworth preview identifies the seventeenth and eighteenth as the two closing par fives. It highlights the importance of the seventeenth tee shot and the water short and left on the eighteenth approach. Our suggestion: those are good reasons to consider a settled late-round position, subject to access. Watch how a competitor’s score influences the decision to attack; the same approach can be an opportunity for one player and an unnecessary risk for another.
Spectator routes, comfort and access
Our suggestion: arrive with a first-hour plan and leave the rest flexible. Get through admission, find a recognisable meeting point and learn the route between the practice facilities, course and food areas where your ticket allows. Then decide whether to follow a group or stay put. A companion with limited walking tolerance can enjoy a settled session while another explores, provided you agree when and where to meet.
Final championship gates, parking, shuttle provision, permitted bags and accessible viewing must be checked with the BMW PGA organiser. The estate's normal roads and entrances can operate differently during a crowded event. If you need mobility assistance, ask about the complete route from arrival to viewing, including surfaces, slopes, toilets and the journey back. Do not make a room non-refundable until the essential parts of that access plan are clear.
Our suggestion: prepare for both rain and periods of standing in warmth. Comfortable footwear matters more than looking like a golfer, and you do not need to bring clubs to watch. Keep waterproofs accessible, put the phone on silent before reaching play and carry only the food and drink containers permitted by the event. If watching with children, schedule a food stop before the busiest part of the afternoon and keep a shorter exit option. A good first tournament need not last from the first tee time to the final putt.
Getting to Virginia Water and the event
Confirmed: South Western Railway publishes Virginia Water station information and journey planning. Check services from your starting station for the actual event dates, including any engineering work. Being able to reach Virginia Water by rail is useful, but you still need the event's instructions for the journey from station to entrance. Do not replace that final step with an assumption based on the distance to the club boundary.
Our suggestion: compare the total journey from London with staying closer. A city base can work if London is part of the holiday; a nearby room may be more comfortable for several early starts. Check the return journey at the hour you intend to leave, then add enough time to reach the station. If the last sensible train would force you to miss the part of the event you most want, change the base or the transport plan before paying.
For drivers, use the championship's parking purchase and directed approach once available. Taxis and private-hire vehicles also need the authorised collection arrangements. From Heathrow, assess the whole transfer to your accommodation and then to the course; an airport-area room can still involve awkward journeys. After a late flight, allow time to collect luggage and settle in. A breakfast you can actually eat and a relaxed departure are worth considering alongside the room rate when comparing nearby properties.
Where to stay around Wentworth
Our suggestion: Virginia Water is the obvious first search when you want to be near the venue. Check the precise address and route to the relevant entrance, since the name covers more than a single walkable cluster. Egham is another local comparison, especially if its transport and dining options suit your group. Ask about parking, check-in and breakfast directly when the listing leaves those details unclear.
Windsor suits visitors who want a distinct town break around the golf. It can also give non-golf companions an independent day. Staines-upon-Thames broadens the accommodation search, but compare the actual route to the championship before choosing on price. A saving can disappear quickly if every day requires several taxi journeys. Decide whether everyone will travel together or whether some people need to leave earlier; one car is less flexible than it sounds.
Ascot and Woking provide further Surrey-area alternatives, each requiring its own connection plan. Evaluate the property rather than the town name alone: access to the station, food within a comfortable distance and the final course journey matter more than a broad location label. For a group, compare room layouts and cancellation policies on the same basis. An inexpensive non-refundable stay may be a poor choice if your ticket arrangements remain unsettled. Keep an extra night in mind if leaving directly after the final round would make the whole afternoon feel hurried.
Evenings in Surrey and a wider visit
Our suggestion: choose one main evening destination rather than making each dinner another expedition. If you stay in Windsor, give yourself time there. If you select Virginia Water or Egham for convenience, enjoy the benefit of an easier return instead of feeling obliged to head elsewhere. Book an important meal with enough margin after golf, particularly on a day when you intend to watch the leaders finish.
Accommodation close to suitable food can be a greater convenience than another advertised leisure facility. After a full day outside, many groups simply want to change shoes, eat and compare the shots they saw. Ask about late dining if your expected arrival is near the end of service. Dietary requirements deserve a specific conversation in advance rather than a search after everyone is tired. Keep one person responsible for the reservation while each traveller retains their own ticket and journey information.
For a non-golf day, leave the timetable lighter than the championship day. A Surrey or Windsor base can support a broader break, but avoid overcommitting companions to the car. Agree the day's independent transport before setting off. If staying in London instead, make space for the longer commute in your energy budget. Adding a late city evening to a dawn departure can be enjoyable once, but it is seldom the best pattern for several consecutive golf days.
Playing access and the last booking decisions
Confirmed: Wentworth identifies itself as a private golf and country club. Do not assume general visitor tee times are available because a championship admits spectators. If you have a playing enquiry or invitation, ask the club about the applicable course, player requirements and arrangements directly. Event hospitality also needs to be read on its own terms; food and a hosted setting do not imply a round on the West Course.
Our suggestion: separate the ambition to play from the plan to watch unless written confirmation ties them together. Confirm access before buying additional accommodation nights or transporting clubs. If you are organising several people, make sure the booking holder understands cancellation terms and knows whether guests need to supply any information. A famous venue is no reason to accept an unclear itinerary.
For the spectator trip, finish by checking admission day, accommodation nights, course transfer and the journey home together. Save the event map and station information where they can be opened without a reliable signal. Give the group a meeting point and a departure time. Continue with the BMW PGA Championship hub, compare Virginia Water, Windsor and Surrey stays, and use the practical spectator guides to prepare. A room matched to your transport makes this prestigious course much easier to enjoy.
