Which Belfry course are you visiting?

Confirmed: the Brabazon is The Belfry's Ryder Cup course. The resort also advertises the PGA National and Derby, so a package described as “Belfry golf” needs a second look before you book. For a championship visit, establish the event, the admission day and the course. For a playing break, insist on the precise course names in the confirmation rather than assuming the best-known one is included.

The Brabazon's identity is tied to match-play memories and risk-reward golf. The resort's own course page recalls Seve Ballesteros' drive onto the tenth green and Sam Torrance's winning putt in 1985. You can enjoy those connections even if you never watched the original matches. They give familiar holes context, while a contemporary tournament shows how current players approach the same decisions.

Our suggestion: decide whether you want a resort holiday or a championship day with a town evening. Both can be good choices, but they create different budgets and routines. Staying at the venue can reduce ordinary travel during a playing break; championship security and access still need separate confirmation. A Birmingham city stay offers more independent activities for companions but adds a transfer for each golf day. Pick the pattern that your whole party will enjoy, especially if only some members want to watch every round.

The tenth, the finish and the rest of the round

Confirmed: The Belfry singles out the tenth as a risk-reward hole, and its Brabazon material illustrates the eighteenth and the course's Ryder Cup history. The attraction for a spectator is the decision as much as the result: watch the choice of club, the target and whether a player attacks or accepts a safer route. That story is easier to follow when you see several groups attempt the same hole.

Our suggestion: make time for the tenth if the current event routes provide a suitable view. Do not assume you can arrive with the leaders and find a clear position. A settled place earlier in the day may let you see a wider range of approaches. Near the finish, think about the angle from which you can follow the approach and the putting rather than simply standing as close as possible to the green.

The rest of the round deserves attention too. If you only rush between two famous holes, you may miss the way a player builds a score. Follow a quieter group for a stretch, then pause where you can watch successive approaches. A course map helps, but a tournament map is the one that tells you where the public can move. Temporary structures and crossings change the shortest practical route. Keep your itinerary flexible enough to stay somewhere that is working well rather than abandoning a good view to complete a checklist.

Our suggestion: a Brabazon playing break and a British Masters visit can share a theme without sharing a timetable. Ask the resort which normal facilities remain accessible on your dates, especially if a companion wants leisure time while you watch. Confirm any treatments or meals separately from the golf package. Written details about access, inclusions and cancellation are more useful than a broad promise of a resort experience when a championship is occupying part of the grounds.

Watching the British Masters comfortably

Our suggestion: agree a manageable viewing plan before entering the busiest areas. A morning walk followed by a settled afternoon can suit a mixed group. People with mobility limitations should ask about routes between the entrance, viewing area and facilities, not only whether a platform is available. The event organiser controls spectator arrangements, while the resort's ordinary information describes a different kind of visit.

Final British Masters gate times, car parks, shuttles, bag rules and accessible services must come from the current championship guidance. A hotel booking at The Belfry does not by itself establish spectator admission or permission to walk through every area during an event. Check those connections explicitly. If you have hospitality, read which days, meals and areas it includes and where you must check in.

Our suggestion: pack for standing as well as walking. Take layers, permitted weather protection and comfortable shoes with suitable grip. Use the event's rules when choosing a seat or umbrella. For children, build the day around short stretches of golf, breaks and a clear finish rather than asking them to imitate an adult's full-round concentration. A group meeting point should remain recognisable even when the course is busy, and everyone should know what to do if phone reception becomes unreliable.

Getting there from Birmingham and beyond

Confirmed: Birmingham Airport publishes its transport links, and Transport for West Midlands provides regional journey planning. Use these to build the first part of the journey, then add the separate road transfer to The Belfry. A train or flight to Birmingham is not the same as arriving at the spectator entrance. Check the complete itinerary in both directions before choosing the accommodation.

Our suggestion: a city-centre base can work for visitors arriving by rail who want restaurants and activities around the golf. Compare the cost and timing of the final transfer for every day, including collection after play. A pre-booked taxi needs the event's authorised drop-off and pick-up arrangements. Give the driver the correct location rather than relying on a generic resort address that may lead to an entrance closed to general traffic.

Drivers should follow the event's directed parking route once issued. For an ordinary playing stay, use the resort's own arrival instructions and allow time for reception and changing. If travelling with several sets of clubs, check vehicle luggage capacity rather than simply counting seats. Birmingham Airport or the NEC area can be useful for an arrival or departure night, but do not assume an airport-area hotel automatically offers the easiest championship commute. Compare the whole door-to-door route and the breakfast arrangements before settling on a room.

Five bases and the trade-offs between them

Our suggestion: start with Sutton Coldfield when you want a local town base and a separate course journey. Inspect the precise property location; the label covers a broad area and does not guarantee a walkable connection to the event. Ask about parking if you are driving and assess the evening food options if you would rather leave the car behind. Convenience comes from a useful address, not the shortest line on a regional map.

Birmingham city centre suits a longer break or a group split between golf and other interests. Staying near your arrival station can make luggage easier, but the final trip to the resort still needs organising. Tamworth and Lichfield are alternative town searches for visitors who prefer a different setting. Test their transfers at the hour you need to travel and agree how the group returns if people finish watching at different times.

The Birmingham Airport and NEC area is worth comparing for early flights, late arrivals or a wider journey. Consider whether it is simply a practical first or last night rather than the ideal base for the whole holiday. For every option, compare the total cost with transfers included. A family may value a kitchen and laundry more than a formal breakfast; a group of friends may value separate beds and bathrooms. Check cancellation dates against ticket confirmation and avoid paying for an unsuitable room merely because it appears to be the last available bargain.

Meals and evenings after the golf

Confirmed: The Belfry publishes dining options, including its Brabazon Bar. Check reservations and current arrangements directly, particularly around championship dates. A resort restaurant can be convenient during a playing stay, but an event can change access and demand. Ask whether your intended dining venue is reachable under your booking and whether you need to reserve separately.

Our suggestion: keep dinner near the accommodation when you have spent the day walking. If you chose Birmingham, enjoy the benefit of a city evening without scheduling so much that you lose sleep before another early departure. If staying in Tamworth, Lichfield or Sutton Coldfield, use the town you selected rather than feeling obliged to return to the resort. The best evening plan is usually the one nobody needs to drive a long distance to reach.

For a mixed party, decide whether the non-golf members will meet you at the course or back at the room. One clear arrangement is easier than repeated messages sent between shots. Allow for a change of shoes and wet clothing before a nicer meal. Guests with dietary needs should confirm suitable food ahead of time, and everyone should understand whether breakfast is included or merely available. These ordinary details make more difference to the quality of a multi-day trip than adding another ambitious stop to an already full schedule.

Playing the Brabazon and finishing your plans

Confirmed: The Belfry offers official online tee-time booking and golf breaks. Use the resort's channels to compare the Brabazon with the other courses and see what your package contains. Check tee times, equipment needs, any player requirements and the applicable cancellation terms. A headline package price can cover different room types or courses, so compare like with like rather than relying on the promotional name.

Our suggestion: leave space around an important round. Arriving from a long motorway drive and immediately hurrying to the first tee is a poor way to enjoy a course you have travelled to experience. An overnight stay before or after can make the day more relaxed. If you want to play during a championship trip, confirm availability around preparation and recovery periods before paying for extra nights. Tournament admission does not allocate a tee time.

Complete the itinerary with the precise golf booking, room dates and transfers visible together. Make sure each traveller can find their own confirmations, and appoint one person to check the transport instructions close to departure. Continue to the British Masters hub for event planning, compare Belfry and Birmingham accommodation areas, and read the first-time spectator advice before choosing your day bag. A practical base lets you concentrate on the Brabazon's decisions instead of the journey home.

British Masters station connection

At The Belfry, the 2026 free event shuttle ran only from Birmingham International, about twice an hour with a roughly 25-minute trip. Last shuttle: Wednesday 20:00; Thursday–Sunday 20:30. Book a taxi from nearer stations. Normal buses do not pass close to the resort. Confirmed: 2026 shuttle plan · The Belfry’s travel FAQs.

2026 spectators used the public car park off the A4091 and a temporary footbridge into the grounds. Taxis and Uber collected at the front of the public car park, not at the hotel or resort entrance. Confirmed: 2026 arrival instructions · Full British Masters arrival guide.
