Find your stay

The R&A has published accessible parking and carer-ticket information for 2027; its full championship accessibility guide is due in early 2027.

Start with the part of the day that matters most

Describe the day you want to enjoy, then identify the assistance needed to make it possible. That might be seeing play from a seated position, avoiding a long walk, managing fatigue or travelling with a carer. Send those practical needs to the organiser before committing to accommodation and transport. A clear description gives the accessibility team more to work with than asking whether the whole event is accessible.

Include your intended day, number of people, mobility equipment and how you expect to arrive. Explain any feature that affects a transfer, such as staying in a wheelchair or needing room for particular equipment. Ask about the route from arrival point to entry as well as facilities inside. Keep the reply with your ticket information so the person accompanying you can also find it.

The R&A's current contact is accessibility@randa.org. Use it for event-specific questions. Our general accessibility guide can help structure the conversation, while this page keeps the published St Andrews 2027 arrangements distinct from assumptions based on another venue.

Accessible parking: what is published for 2027

The official travel page describes a pre-booked accessible car park for eligible Accessible Parking Permit holders, subject to availability. It says the surface is hard standing and a dedicated shuttle will take spectators to a point immediately outside the championship entrance. Contact the accessibility team to secure the arrangement rather than driving to the ordinary public parking and expecting the same route.

The published booking deadline is 5pm UK BST on Friday 2 July 2027. The organiser asks for evidence such as a Blue Badge or equivalent, with images of both sides supplied in advance for the free parking eligibility described on its page. Check the current requirements directly and keep the booking confirmation available in the vehicle. A permit alone should not be treated as a completed event reservation.

Ask about the shuttle's suitability for your equipment and party when booking. Confirm collection arrangements at both ends, any assistance offered and how the return operates. The published description gives a useful route to the entrance, but the details of boarding and the journey must fit your needs. If arriving by an accessible coach or minibus, the organiser also directs enquiries to its accessibility team.

Carer tickets and the closed ballot

The 2027 ballot page says fans requiring a carer's assistance could apply for one complimentary Carer ticket as part of the ballot application, within the four-ticket daily allocation. It says supporting evidence is requested following a successful application. The ballot has now closed, so a new or changed request should be discussed directly with the organiser rather than assuming the original application can be edited.

Check the actual dates and ticket categories held by everyone in the party before writing. If using an authorised package or considering official resale, explain that purchase route in the enquiry. Ask how a necessary companion is accommodated for your specific situation and what evidence is required. Keep the answer alongside the purchase terms so that the ticket and assistance arrangements remain aligned.

Do not buy an extra product simply because it is described as premium without checking the access route. A hospitality or upgraded ticket may have different entrances, seating or facilities from general admission. The right choice depends on where you can comfortably get to, remain and return from, as well as the food or view included.

Viewing platforms, toilets and mobility support

The full Accessibility Guide for The 155th Open is scheduled for early 2027. Detailed 2027 locations and operating arrangements for accessible viewing platforms, toilets and any on-course mobility support were not established in the material checked for this page. Ask the organiser about the facilities you need and revisit its guide when published, before finalising a route around the course.

For a viewing location, ask how it is reached, whether a companion can remain with you and whether access is reserved or managed on arrival. If queues or standing are difficult, say so directly. For toilets, ask about the specific facilities required rather than relying on the general phrase accessible toilet. The answer should help you judge whether a full day or a shorter visit is more comfortable.

Plan a small number of places to watch. Our Old Course viewing guide explains the holes and features, but use the organiser's access information to decide which positions suit you. An attractive place on a course map may involve a route or surface that does not match your equipment, stamina or assistance needs.

Rail, buses and the final connection

The R&A identifies Leuchars as the nearest station and confirms a championship shuttle between the station and venue. Discuss your requirements with both the relevant train operator and event team. Arrange any rail assistance using the operator's official service, and check how the connection from the platform to the event shuttle works for your journey and equipment.

A successful outward journey is only half the plan. Ask about the return pick-up, the last useful connection and what to do if you need to leave earlier than expected. Keep operator and event contacts available to the travelling companion as well as the ticket holder. Allow space in the schedule for boarding and transfers instead of linking every stage by the shortest possible connection.

If arriving by taxi, book the type of vehicle you need and confirm the permitted event drop-off and collection point. Tell the driver about relevant equipment in advance and agree how a changed departure time would be handled. The Fife travel page brings together the wider transport options; direct confirmation is especially useful for the final transfer.

Choose accommodation around real access details

Ask the accommodation provider specific questions before booking: entrance steps, lift access, bedroom and bathroom layout, bed height where important, and the route from the room to breakfast or a vehicle. Request measurements or photographs for a feature that determines whether the stay will work. A broad accessibility filter is useful for searching, but it cannot answer every individual requirement.

Think about the evening as well as the championship. A room that allows an easy rest, a nearby meal and simple morning departure can be more useful than a theoretically closer address with an awkward entrance. If travelling with a companion, check the bed arrangement and whether the room allows enough space for both people's luggage and equipment.

Before departure, confirm five things in one place: admission and companion arrangements; the booked arrival route; the facilities needed during the day; a manageable viewing plan; and the return journey to suitable accommodation. Use our St Andrews stay guide to begin comparing areas, then ask providers directly about the room. Return to the Open hub for the main dates and ticket information as you bring the booking together.

Keep one clear assistance note

Prepare a short note that a travelling companion can use if plans change. Include the organiser contact, your booked arrival arrangement, relevant equipment details and the accommodation address. Add the practical information that helps somebody assist you, rather than unnecessary personal history. Keep a copy available without a mobile signal and another with the person who may collect you.

Agree how the group will communicate if somebody leaves a viewing position for food or facilities. Choose a meeting point that suits the access route and avoid depending on a crowded landmark. If leaving early is a possibility, discuss that with the return transport provider before the visit so the alternative is understood.

After the full 2027 accessibility guide is published, compare it with the answers you already received. Contact the team again if a change affects your day, particularly a route, facility location or transfer arrangement. A final confirmation close to travel helps bring the event ticket, equipment, transport and room booking into one workable plan without relying on a previous championship's layout.

Our suggestion: stay in St Andrews for the simplest evenings and least complicated local journey, or compare Dundee and nearby Fife towns if you can organise the daily transfer. Choose the journey to the spectator entrance before choosing the room.
